Fleeing from Law Enforcement lands Sanchez behind bars

Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced that on February 7, 2024, Javier Sanchez, age 52, of Clovis, was found guilty by a jury, of Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer, Driving While License Revoked and No Registration.

On October 27, 2022, Officer Dunn with the New Mexico State Police made a traffic stop with Javier Sanchez.  Sanchez was driving on a revoked driver’s license and was going to be arrested.  Sanchez asked Officer Dunn if he could use his phone to call someone to come pick up his vehicle which she allowed. Sanchez then got into his car and sped off.  Officer Dunn ran to her patrol unit and attempted to follow him. Sanchez fled through a residential neighborhood at a high rate of speed and almost struck another vehicle.  Officer Dunn quit her pursuit due to his dangerous driving and out of concern for the safety of the community.

The Honorable Judge Tatum presided over the trial.  Sanchez was sentenced to 4 months in the Department of Corrections followed by 14 months on probation. 

The case was prosecuted by District Attorney, Quentin Ray, and Sanchez was represented by criminal defense attorney, Brittany Hudson of the Law Office of the Public Defender.
