CLOVIS, N.M. – District Attorney Quentin Ray announced that Joshua Hutson, 45, of Clovis has been convicted of Criminal Sexual Penetration (First Degree Felony) and Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor (2nd Degree Felony) following a jury trial in the Ninth Judicial District Court.
After a day-long trial, the jury found Hutson guilty of sexually abusing a child under the age of 13. A Curry County Grand Jury indicted Hutson in March 2025 on charges stemming from the abuse. Hutson, who had been previously released on bond, was remanded into custody following the verdict.
Hutson has prior criminal charges involving enticement of a child and has been a registered sex offender since May 31, 2017. As a result of this conviction, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life, pursuant to New Mexico law.
The trial was presided over by District Court Judge Fred Van Soelen. The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Brian Stover. Hutson was represented by Dallas Alfaro and Raymond Conley of the Law Office of the Public Defender.
Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date following a diagnostic evaluation. Hutson faces up to 33 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections.
