Clovis Man Convicted by a Jury of Battery on a Peace Officer and Resisting, Evading, Obstructing an Officer

Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced that on March 8, 2023, Adam Crespin, age 37, of Clovis, was found guilty by a jury, of Battery upon a peace officer and Resisting evading or obstructing an officer.

On June 11, 2022, Officers with the Clovis Police Department responded to Gebo’s in reference to a shoplifting. Upon arrival, an Officer with the Clovis Police Department made contact with Adam Crespin as he was exiting the store.  The Officer attempted to detain Crespin to investigate the shoplifting. Crespin pulled away leading to both individuals hitting the ground in a physical altercation. While on the ground, Crespin elbowed the officer in the face and was able to gain a superior position on top of the officer. Crespin then raised his fist to throw a punch, but instead took advantage of the situation and fled on foot.  The Clovis Police Department officer called for backup and Crespin was arrested within several blocks of the store’s location.

The Honorable Judge Tatum presided over the trial and sentencing will be set in April. Crespin will remain in detention until the hearing.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney, Jake Boazman, and Crespin was represented by criminal defense attorney, Sandy Gallagher of Portales.
