Abeyta sentenced for fleeing from Law Enforcement

Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced that on May 7, 2024, Anthony Abeyta, age 28, of Clovis, was sentenced to nine and a half years in the Department of Corrections for Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer.  The 9 ½ years is to run consecutive to a six-year sentence he received earlier this year for violating probation. 

On March 5, 2024, Abeyta was found guilty by a jury for Aggravated Fleeing when he was involved in a high-speed chase fleeing from Curry County Sheriff Officers because he was driving a stolen truck.  After completion of the 15 ½ year sentence he will be released on parole supervision for 1 year.

The case was prosecuted by Brett Carter, Special Prosecutor and Abeyta was represented by criminal Defense Attorney, Ben Herrmann of Clovis.  The Honorable Judge Benjamin Cross presided over the hearing.
