VASQUEZ HEADED TO PRISON FOR TEN YEARS

Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced that on January 30, 2023, Fabian Vasquez, age 32, of Clovis, pled guilty to False Imprisonment (2 counts), Aggravated Battery-Strangulation of a Household Member (2 Counts) and Interference with Communications. Vasquez did not have any prior felony convictions.

On June 18, 2022, Officers with the Clovis Police Department responded to a domestic in progress at 1913 Cameo Street. Officers made contact with the Victim that stated Vasquez had beat and strangled her until she passed out.  Once she woke up Vasquez would not let her leave by pinning her down and took her cell phone away.  The victim attempted to leave thru the shower window and Vasquez saw her and drug her back to the residence. A neighbor came out and saw Vasquez punching the Victim in the face and called 911. The Victim’s son was in the residence during the incident.

The Honorable Drew Tatum presided over the hearing and sentenced Vasquez to ten years in the Department of Corrections. Vasquez will not be eligible for parole until May 2029. The Victim in this case gave a victim impact statement to the court stating “I choose to forgive Vasquez in order to heal. Holding onto anger hardens my heart and I cannot live this way for myself and my son”.  Judge Tatum stated, “Mr. Vasquez, I cannot imagine any situation to justify what you did. I give her a ton of credit. She chooses to forgive you. She is not a victim; she is a survivor.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney, Brett Carter, and Vasquez was represented by criminal defense attorney, Todd Bullion, of Albuquerque, NM.
