CLOVIS, N.M. – District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced today that Jesus Anaya has pled guilty to Battery Upon a Peace Officer, a fourth-degree felony. Anaya will serve a total of four years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections for the battery charge and for being a habitual offender.
The sentence follows an incident that occurred on January 22, 2025, when officers with the Clovis Police Department located Anaya, who had active felony warrants, at a residence in the 800 block of Merriwether Street. After being found hiding in the attic, Anaya resisted arrest and kicked an officer in the chest and stomach while being placed in a patrol unit.
Anaya was taken into custody without further injury and booked into the Curry County Adult Detention Center.
Special Prosecutor Brett Carter represented the State. Anaya was represented by Sandra Gallagher of the Law Office of the Public Defender.
