Clovis NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that Johnny Rae Vigil appeared before the Honorable Drew D. Tatum today on the State’s Motion to Detain. Judge Tatum granted the State’s motion and held Vigil without bond.
Vigil was indicted by a grand jury of First Degree Murder, in the November 7, 2019, shooting death of Jahmall Burge.
Judge Tatum stated Vigil is a danger to the community and no release conditions would protect the community. Furthermore, the Judge commented the evidence in the case is strong, Vigil was released from jail 36 hours prior to this incident, Vigil has violated his probation in the past, and Vigil has difficulty following conditions of release.
Vigil was represented by Freeman Faust, from the Office of the Public Defender.
