Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that a panel of District Attorneys has found that the officer involved shooting of Arron Chavez by Clovis Police Officer Brent Aguilar, was justified.
The incident occurred on October 8, 2018, in the 600 Block of South Prince.
District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, stated, “Because Officer Brent Aguilar is the son of my Chief Investigator, I immediately referred this to the DA panel which consisted of (3) three independent District Attorneys from across the state and from diverse jurisdictions. In fact, I did not review the case or speak with the reviewing DA’s about the facts of the case at any point.”
“I received the decision from the panel last Friday, unanimously agreeing that no criminal prosecution should be initiated against Officer Aguilar relating to his use of deadly force against Arron Chavez. I have stated from the beginning that I would follow the recommendations of the panel whatever those recommendations turned out to be. I intend to do just that. I have discussed these results with counsel for the deceased’s family and given them a copy of the findings.”
“I have attached the letter from the DA panel to this release listing all the facts, details and reasoning behind their decision. The sympathy I feel for Arron Chavez and his family cannot determine the outcome of the decision whether to criminally charge someone.”
