Clovis NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that today a Curry County jury found Darryl Turner, age 31, of Clovis, guilty of voluntary manslaughter.
David McDonald was gunned down by Darryl Turner on September 5, 2017, at the Clovis Apartments. After the shooting, Turner fled to California, where he was arrested on unrelated charges and then extradited back to New Mexico.
The Honorable Matthew Chandler presided over the four-day trial. Judge Chandler ordered that sentencing be held at a later date. Turner faces at least six years in prison and could have his sentence enhanced by prior felony convictions.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Brian Stover prosecuted the case for the State. Ibukun Adepoju and Julie Ann Ball, both of the Public Defender’s Office represented Turner.
