Clovis Man Sentenced to Nine Years for Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor

November 8, 2018

Clovis NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that on November 6, 2018, Domingo Bolanos, age 61, was sentenced to nine years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections.

On July 18, 2018, a Curry County jury convicted Bolanos of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor, for his actions towards a step-grand child who was residing in the home at the time.   The child was not able to report the incident to anyone until she was removed from the home and placed with her maternal grandparents.  It turns out she was not the only child to be abused in the home.

Bolanos' son, 31 year old Michael Bolanos was convicted of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor in May of 2017.  Michael is currently serving a twenty year sentence for actions that he took toward other children in the home.

"It is horrifying to consider the way these two men treated the children under their care.  We are supposed to protect our children, these men were preying on them,"  said Chief Deputy District Attorney Brian Scott Stover who prosecuted both offenders.

The charge is a serious violent offense, which means Bolanos will have to serve 85% of the time before being considered for parole.   That parole term may be for the life of the offender and includes ankle monitoring and mandatory registration as a sex offender for the rest of Bolanos' life.  Domingo Bolanos was also convicted of child abuse in 2015.

The Honorable Fred Van Soelen presided over the case.  Brian Scott Stover and Lara Maierhiofer prosecuted the case for the State,

Brett Carter, Criminal Defense Attorney, represented Bolanos.
