Clovis NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that today Brandon Barron, age 29, of Albuquerque, NM, was found guilty by a Curry County jury of Criminal Sexual Penetration, a third degree felony. The jury deliberated for approximately 30 minutes before returning their guilty verdict.
In March of 2017, Clovis Police responded to the Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis for a report of a victim suffering from severe injuries due to a sexual assault. The victim reported that a Kirby Vacuum salesman had sexually assaulted her in her home over a period of time. The jury heard testimony during the one-day trial from the victim, a sexual assault nurse examiner, a DNA lab analyst from the New Mexico State Crime Lab, and a Clovis Police officer.
The Honorable Fred Van Soelen presided over the trial and ordered that sentencing be held at a later date pending a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the Adult Probation Office. Barron faces up to three years in prison. Court records show that Barron also has a pending criminal case in Bernalillo County for Aggravated DWI.
Brian Scott Stover, Chief Deputy District Attorney and Arwen Gaddis, Assistant District Attorney, prosecuted the case for the State. Barron was represented by Criminal Defense Attorney, Richard Valdez, of Albuquerque, NM.
