Clovis woman convicted of Obstruction of Investigation of Child Abuse

March 2, 2018

Clovis NM - Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that on February 27, 2018, Claudia Reza, age 35, of Clovis, was sentenced to 30 days to the Curry County Detention Center and 334 days of supervised probation.  Reza was found guilty by a jury of Obstruction of Investigation of Child Abuse, a misdemeanor in the Magistrate Court case presided over by Judge Buddy Hall.

In October 2016, Reza and four of her children were in a rollover crash after her ex-boyfriend Dylan Gutierrez rammed their vehicle. Throughout the investigation of that crash, Reza refused to allow her children who were in the crash to speak with law enforcement officers who were investigating the Child Abuse case.

During sentencing, Judge Hall remarked “This man tried to kill you, he tried to kill your children. You need to let that sink in.” The Judge also noted the seriousness of the crimes Mr. Gutierrez committed and the difficulty in prosecuting that case due Ms. Reza’s obstruction.

This case was prosecuted by Nicholas Rossi, Assistant District Attorney.  Ms. Reza was represented by criminal defense attorney, Samuel Forshner.
