Clovis NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that on February 15, 2018, Gabrielle Carver, age 25, of Clovis, was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections for Aggravated Battery.
On January 9, 2018, Ms. Carver was charged with Aggravated Battery after she shot an individual with a sawed-off rifle. The charge normally carries a potential three year prison sentence; however, a firearm enhancement of one year was added in this case because the defendant used a rifle in the act. The crime is also considered a serious violent offense, requiring the defendant to serve a minimum of 85% of the sentence in prison.
The Honorable Fred Van Soelen presided over the plea hearing and noted the seriousness of the action and the concern it presents for the community's safety.
This case was prosecuted by Arwen Gaddis, Assistant District Attorney. Ms. Carver was represented by criminal defense attorney, Brett Carter.
