Clovis NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that a Clovis man, Logan Reavis, age 28, received 9 years in the Department of Corrections following a 2 hour sentencing hearing in front of the Honorable Fred Van Soelen.

The charges stem from November 2014, when the victim and her husband hosted a party at their home in Clovis.  The victim went to bed and was awakened by Reavis sexually assaulting her in her bedroom.  In March of 2017, the jury deliberated for two hours before returning a guilty verdict.

At the sentencing hearing, the State requested the Defendant receive the maximum 9 year sentence allowed.  The defense attorney, Tom Harden, requested a probated sentence.  The court heard testimony from the victim, her mother, her sister, and received numerous letters of support for the victim.

The Defendant, in addition had family members speak and his own letters of support.  However, the Defendant chose not to address the Court at sentencing or address the victim.

Prior to handing down the maximum 9 year sentence, the Honorable Fred Van Soelen commented, “ I don’t have to decide who is telling the truth because a jury decided that Mr. Reavis was guilty of this crime.”  The Court further discussed the Defendant gave different versions of what occurred to law enforcement and in court at the jury trial.   “I can’t fully understand what the victim goes through in a situation like this.”  The Judge told the Defendant, “I have sympathy for your children and family, but the consequences come down to the results of your own actions.”

In addition to the 9 year prison sentence, the Defendant will be required to register for life as a sex offender and be on a 5 to 20 year parole period.

Chief Deputy District Attorney, Brian Stover, prosecuted the case for the State of New Mexico. Thomas Harden, criminal defense attorney, represented Reavis.
