Clovis NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that yesterday, Devin Branch, age 32, of Clovis, was sentenced to the maximum of ten years in prison. Branch was convicted of Trafficking Controlled Substances at a jury trial earlier this month.
The charge stemmed from an undercover drug operation by the Region V Drug Task force in December of 2015 after search warrants were executed on Branch’s vehicle. 84.4 grams of cocaine was seized.
The Honorable Fred Van Soelen presided over the sentencing before a courtroom filled with law enforcement officers. Van Soelen heard statements from the officers about how Branch’s actions had threatened the safety of them and their family. Judge Van Soelen stated that while he deals with drug addicts in Drug Court, Branch’s actions are the cause of the addictions plaguing our community. Van Soelen further stated that taking into account the actions of Branch, he found no reason to mitigate the sentence. Van Soelen sentenced Branch to the maximum sentence allowed by law of ten years in prison.
Assistant District Attorneys Kristen Beltran and Alexander Vang prosecuted the case for the State and Benjamin Herrmann represented Branch.
