Clovis, NM ~ Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that James Michael Call age 29, of Clovis, was sentenced on October 4, 2016, to serve six years in prison for Assault with Intent to Commit a Violent Felony and Aggravated Assault, both third degree felonies.
On August 21, 2015, Call robbed a Wal-Mart employee at gun point in the parking lot. After she told him she didn’t have any money and didn’t speak English, he fled in what was later determined to be a stolen vehicle. Later that same day, Clovis Police Officers located the stolen vehicle at a local hotel which ultimately led to the arrest of Call.
The Honorable Fred Van Soelen presided over the plea hearing and determined Call to be a habitual offender with two prior felony convictions. The crime of Assault with Intent to Commit a Violent Felony is considered a “serious violent offense” which means Call will have to serve 85% of his time before being considered for release.
District Attorney Andrea Reeb prosecuted the case for the State. Assistant Public Defender, Ben Herrmann, represented Call.
