Drug Trafficker Convicted in Clovis
Clovis, NM - Ninth Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb announced that Mikel Martinez, age 21, of Clovis, was found guilty by a Curry County jury of Trafficking Controlled Substances, Methamphetamine; Conspiracy to Trafficking Controlled Substances; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; and Possession of Marijuana. The Curry County jury heard the case yesterday, January 6, 2015, and deliberated for two hours before rendering their guilty verdicts.
Martinez was observed in a vehicle engaging in suspicious activity at the Allsup’s at Grand and Prince on March 20, 2014, during a surveillance operation by the Region V Drug Task Force. After executing a search warrant on the vehicle, officers found approximately 5.7 grams of methamphetamine under the driver’s seat where Martinez had been sitting, a digital scale, and various drug paraphernalia.
The Honorable Fred Van Soelen presided over the one-day trial and Assistant District Attorneys Kristen Beltran and Stephen Ralph prosecuted the case for the State of New Mexico. Criminal defense attorney Ben Herrmann represented the defendant.
Sentencing is pending and Martinez is facing a potential of 13 years in the Department of Corrections.
