Portales Man Sentenced to Nine Years
Portales, NM ~ Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that Robert Wiltse, age 62, of Portales, NM, was found guilty by a Roosevelt County jury on January 27, 2016, of Receiving Stolen Property over, $20,000, a second degree felony. The three-day trial was held in Portales, New Mexico.
In March of 2013, during an investigation by Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant revealed items in a Conex storage box belonging to Wiltse. These items were identified as stolen in several burglaries in the area. At least 11 victims testified to burglaries occurring at their residences or storage facilities and these burglaries occurred in multiple counties and across state lines.
The Honorable Matthew Chandler presided over the trial and ordered Wiltse taken into immediate custody, and sentenced him to nine years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections. Judge Chandler also ordered that Wiltse pay full restitution.
Deputy District Attorney Jake Boazman prosecuted the case for the State of New Mexico, and criminal defense attorney Jonathan Miller of Albuquerque, NM, represented the defendant.
