Clovis Man Sentenced for Drug Possession
Clovis, NM - Ninth Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb announced that Steve Jurado, age 28, of Clovis, was sentenced yesterday on charges of Possession of Cocaine. On November 18, 2015, a Curry County jury found Jurado guilty after a one-day trial. The jury was hung on a more serious charge of Trafficking Cocaine.
Jurado had been observed during a surveillance operation conducted by the Region V Drug Task Force. In July of 2011 a search warrant was executed and Jurado was found in possession of cocaine. The case suffered many delays since 2011, including Jurado being out on a warrant for failing to appear, Jurado withdrawing from plea agreements, and also firing his attorney.
On December 30, 2015, the Honorable Drew D. Tatum sentenced Jurado to eighteen months in prison to be followed by one year of supervised probation.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Brian Stover, and Assistant District Attorney Leah Hutchins prosecuted the case for the State of New Mexico. Criminal defense attorney, Ben Mondragon of Las Vegas, NM, represented Jurado.
