Man Convicted of Child Sex Offenses Receives 9 years in Prison
Clovis, NM ~ Today, Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that today, November 6, 2015, Israel Martinez, of Clovis, NM, was sentenced to the maximum 9 years in prison by the Honorable Matthew Chandler. Martinez was convicted by a jury on Thursday of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor and Attempted Criminal Contact of a Minor.
The charges stem from a 2007 incident where the defendant molested two seven (7) year- old girls. The girls were living with their grandmother and the defendant was the grandmother's boyfriend. The girls were afraid to tell for several years. When the girls finally came forward, the defendant fled New Mexico to Indianapolis. He was arrested and brought back to New Mexico for trial.
The jury deliberated for (6) hours before returning verdicts of guilty. District Judge Matthew Chandler presided over the case. At sentencing, Judge Chandler told the defendant, “I see the pain that you have caused these victims, I just can't get past that. They deserve for you to receive the maximum sentence.”
Martinez was sentenced to nine (9) years in the Department of Corrections followed by lifetime parole and lifetime sex offender registration.
District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, stated, our office is extremely pleased with the sentence of (9) years. This sentence takes another sexual predator out of our community. When he completes his sentence, it is likely the defendant will be deported to Mexico.”
