Clovis Police Department officers responded to the area and began searching for the suspect. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect heading south towards Clovis Community College. Officers went to Clovis Community College and out of abundance of caution, the school was locked down. Officers located the suspect leaving the main entrance of the college. The suspect was taken into custody and was identified as Julian Montoya (age 43). After the suspect was arrested, the lockdown was removed from Clovis Community College.
The Clovis Police Department’s Detective Division was activated to lead the investigation. Detectives recovered approximately 15 shell casings inside the home. No one inside the home was injured from gunfire. Detectives discovered Julian entered the home by shattering a sliding glass door. One resident was cut by broken glass and a second resident received minor injuries while escaping through the window. Both residents were treated and released on scene by Clovis EMS. Julian was interviewed by Detectives and there is no motive or relation between him and the residents of the home. Julian has been charged with Aggravated Burglary (2nd Degree Felony), Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (4th Degree Felony) and Felon in Possession of a Firearm (3rd Degree Felony).
